How much for a "basic" 454 build?
I've got a 454 block from a 71/72 passenger car...049 heads...all are bare.
I want to build a basic (basic means I can't afford big-performance adder stuff) engine for my '68 C10 pickup. How much $$$ would I be looking at to build this? The block is .030 over, and has been fluxed, as well as the heads...machine work wouldn't be necesarry, and I am doing the build myself.
Thanks!

If your doing the work yourself look into a master rebuild kit. Sometimes you can get them locally from a engine shop. It consists in all gaskets ,bearings, ring's valve guide and depending on what you are using from the old part's you can get piston's , valves, valve spring's in matched kit's also. You can save a lot of money, which is alway's a good thing1

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
