Peanut port heads
Hello there members, I have a 454 that has these peanut port heads on it. I'm going to me using it for mud racing. This is my first year using a big block. Its all stock. But anyways I have a edelbrock performer oval port intake for it. I'm I going to have to gasket match the ports for this intake to work. I also have some truck pull headers for it that are coming out the hood that I had boughten. the ports on that are way bigger that the ones on the head. I have some aluminum header gaskets that are oval that are way to big too. I'm going to have to get the die grinder out and start opening up the heads. Any info will be appreciated. I found out about this peanut port thing after I ordered all this sh-t. So I would like to make it work. Thanks

Dont waste your time on the heads...just get rid of them and get a good set of GM heads....look for 049's or 781's with larger chambers...or 290's or 215's if you want smaller chambers, like with flat top pistons. The peanut port heads have smaller runners all the way thru, you cant die grind out the whole port. Also, if the headers are too big of a diameter, that's no good either. No bigger than 2" for what you want. When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!

I'm kind of on a budget this year. I wanted to just use this stock motor this year and get one built over the winter for next year. But the way it sounds this one probly isn't going to work so well. The headers are 2" also hopefully they work. How much can you get some fo this good heads for anyways. Will they bolt right on with out getting some different pistons. Thanks for the advice.

In you want to stick with the stock pistons, you will need a small chamber to keep your compression ratio anywhere near 9.0 to 1 or higher....the 290's or 215's would work, even with the stock valves, they're great flowing heads. Oval ports too, so you can use your current intake. Price will vary, but usually you can find them used for anywhere from 100.00 set up to maybe 300 or so...check ebay, want ad books, even swap meets...but be careful that they aren't cracked. Numbers are cast into them on top and bottom. I only listed the last three numbers in the casting, that's how they are usually referred to. Stock size valves are 2.06 intake and 1.72 exhaust...upgrades are commomly 2.19 or 2.25 intake and 1.88 exhaust. When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
