Project 454
I am currently building a new motor for my 69 Chevy stepside and would like your opinions and recommendations.
454 2-bolt (bored .060, honed with torque plates and align honed). 049 heads pocket ported with Manley Street-Flo valves (2.19 & 1.88) 4 angle valve job, matched intakes, polished combustion chambers and exhaust ports). Cast crank and rods (polished and shot peened with ARP wave-locs). Speed-Pro forged pistons and plasma moly rings, Clevite 77 bearings, Melling high volume oil pump, Cloyes double roller etc. The engine will be balanced and bluprinted. I have chosen a Crane flat tappet hydraulic cam 226/236 @ .050, .533/.554 lift and 112 ' lobe separation (not installed if someone has a beter choice). I will run an RPM AIR GAP and an 850 Demon carb with vacuum secondaries and annular boosters and 2" headers with dual 2 1/2" exhaust system. The truck has a 12 bolt rear with 3.73's and a locker. I will run 275/60 or 325/50 drag radials a built turbo 350 or 400 with appropriate stall converter. I figure the truck weighs 3,800 to 4,000 pounds. I am hoping to make 500 HP at the crank and run in 12's. I have a super power shot nitrous system if needed for more HP.

I like everything you have there. I have a good friend that has used a very simular combination many times .You may find that you will need more tire and wheel to make it hook up

Stepside, sounds like a strong combo. Glad to see you're not going crazy with the cam like so many others do. I think that's a fine choice. I dont know if you'll hit 500HP at the crank, but you'll surely be very close if not there. What do you figure your compression ratio should be? I agree with the traction issue, you better start stocking up on rear tires!!!When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!

Thanks to all who have replied to my message. The CR should be very close to 9.4:1. What do you all think this beast will run in a 1/4 (assuming we can hook it up) on motor? on the bottle? Thanks again!
