Normal Rat noises
I have a 72 454 in my 76 Nova , my question is how much valvetrain noise do these motors make . I realize there should be some noise , but I almost feel there is a little too much lifter clicking . The motor runs awesome 2500-6500 all sorts of power . I am used to small-block chevy's so this is my first Mark 4. Can anyone put my mind at ease ?

Thinking about switching the torker 2 to a R.P.M. Air Gap manifold next summer . When I have it apart I will check out the valvetrain. If it has a solid lifters what should my valve lash be? I hate to tear it down right now because it run's really awesome.Last edited by 327,JET; 07-15-2006 at 01:51 PM.

if you set them at 0.020 you wound be ok cold but you should know who s cam you have to get the lash rigth if you run them to tight you will take the cam out .and can check by seening to see if the lifter will compress. this can be done with the intake off or on but you need to take off one valve cover just do one lifter be VERY CARFULLY turnnig the nut on the rocker do this.DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE . if you turn one full turn and it move down without much effort then there is a good chance that it is hyd but if it stops then it is a soild .the rocker need to be up .no compresson on the valve spring .AND RESET THE LIFTER

Thanks Pat , I have a 750 holley 3310 on there now ,and it does seem to cough a little.I want to built some kind of scoop for it too,so I can feed it plenty of cold air.
