yea, he's cutting me some slack by doing a free tranny (btw thats 2 that he's done for me now) and he's letting me build my hot rod while im on the clock in HIS shop...He will also stand behind everything that he helps me do. He's the man that taught me how to build an engine.

Either way, i think to get the power that i want, no matter where i go or what i do im going to be into the engine for 2000, so why not do it with some one i know and trust and get a tranny done in the process?

sorry, i dont mean to add things, i just keep thinking about the talk that we had today and remembering stuff...

Bottom line is, im buying a crate motor that im building. And im getting a transmission in the deal because of who i am to him.

Price is $2200 from where it is now (with close chambered heads, no cam/lifters/pushrods) to in the car and being able to run it on the street.

That being said what do you guys think. Keep in mind, i have made no committments and I'm looking for opinions.

After this thread, im seriously thinking about just dropping the whole deal and just sit on all the money i can save up, then when im sitting on a nice nest egg, ill take it all and drop it in front of him and ask him to work with me. No matter what, Im going to be into the engine for 2000 dollars because to make the power that i want out of a 350, id have to spend money, same with any engine...It's just easier to get big power when you start with big inches... I like the 396 and I really think this would be a good setup when it was all said and done.

do what you want to hopper, we dont know all the facts, but if this was from a stranger i wouldnt do it. from you boss i hope he is treating you right. but i can take 2200.00 and build me a nice 454 for the st. my first hot rod motor was in 1961 i had a 56 chevy. and i(why i dont know)wanted a 348 so i went to the junk yrd. and bought one with factory 3-2's i believe 340.00 and put me a little cam in it ,i think i had about 500.00 in it with about 25000 miles on it.

I just need to sit on my cash for awhile, then after i actually have that kind of money in my hand, if i still want to do this deal, Ill do it...I doubt the motor is going anywhere with gas prices the way they are.

Hmm...by waiting and just sitting on my cash i can get all the other stuff done to my el camino before i mess with the engine...it needs floor pans really bad and it needs the bed floor either replaced or channeled. It also needs the hood taken off so that i can weld braces at the weak points. The interior will get stripped when i do the floor. The seat needs to be recovered or new seats found...

Anyone know of any modern seats that will fit into the el caminos? I don't know if like the s10 seats fit or not. Also needs tires.

I like the buckets, but i have a sweetheart and i like to be close with gm's new style bench that has a fold down middle, i can have buckets when she isn't around. Thats why i wondered if the s10 seats would fit. Does anyone know where a hood clip kit would be sold at? (i mean the pins that will hold the hood on if i were to take the hinges off)
