    reading engine castings

I'm trying to find the horsepower of my 427.Its in a 69 vette. the plaque on the dash says 427/435 horse. I had a guy want to buy my car and said it only had a 400 horse engine. Can anyone tell me how to read the engine numbers so I can be for sure? Thanks

    try these sites for starters.

But what you really have to do is some good ole fashion research. There are lots of books you can buy (ID & parts interchange for instance) and there's lots of info on the web, you just have to look.
