    BBC 496 Heads question

I am sending a 70 454 to the machine shop to be stroked and bored ,it has oval port cast heads ,I am not racing but want a torquer engine ,should I keep the oval ports .I was told these make more low rpm torque I will be running a built up 700r4 and a street cam ,I have a buddie with a set of rectangle port heads he said he'd trade if I need them ,I was told for a street eng ovals would be better, both will be port and polished (my buddy does em for free)its all going into a 69 Nova SS,wouldnt low rpm torque be better for the street ?
just finished a frame off resto mod 67 Chevellewith 383 stroked LT1 and a 75 mb 450 SL (not a hot rod but a sweet old convertable}Now am restoring a 69 Nova SS

i have bulit the 496s both ways the big O ports are a great heads and will flow better than alot of socalled hi hp heads that were used by the big 3 so do not look down on them 2.250 intake and1.880 ex and 11/32 stems valves the O ports will work very good. i do work on the cambers to a polish and the ex side to .watch the short side radii on the ex ports that you do not screw with it to much and a good bowl job you want the intake runner ruff do not touch it a good 3or4 angle valve job and back cut the valves and they will work great

Oval Port heads will wrok just fine. Add 2.19/1.88 valves and do some pocket port work and you will be happy.
