    help with my 468..

my chevy 468 engine oil smells slightly of gas. i never noticed this before, but never cheked until i just put a new intake on it. could this have something to do with it? also, there seems to be a lot of noise unser the hood, like maybe the valves or something? the engine is newly built, it only has about 1000 miles on it.

the plugs are black. well, the #1 cylinder is thats the only one i checked. the noise sounds like it is coming from under the valve covers, kind of a clicking noise, its hard to explain really

Yes, it is to rich. The clicking noise under the valve covers means a worn valvetrain or one that is out of adjustment. It will also click if you have a mech. cam or mech. roller cam.

Yes,if there is gas in the oil you will need to change your oil and re-jet your carb.If you have a mech. cam you still need to check the valve clearance.

you know, i dont know too much about the engine, its a 454 bored to a 468, and im not sure about the cfm of the carb or how to check. i just pulled off the valve covers, and i dont know if its supposed to be like this or not, but some of the rocker arms are pretty loose, and some are really tight, i dont know if its because of the way the cam is sitting or what. as you can probably tell, i dont really know a whole lot about this stuff, im kind of learning as i go here. thanks a lot for all of your help
