I'm going with a new auburn series3 with a 3:42 gear set. I have had 3:73 in the past and there is quite a difference between a 3:42 and 3:73 on the highway. You are all right about a 496. I should build one especially in a large monte. The reason why am not is simple... i don't like alot of stuff in my garage and it would mean another eng on a stand that is in my way. Besides, I've been down the drag racing"sickness" road before. It never stops, the need to go faster that is. I used to race a 69 firebird in the late 80's that went 12:70's. I was never satisfied. I aspired to go faster and quicker. The next thing you know, you have a roll bar 3500 converter, 850 double pumper, blue pump, 4:56 rear, hacked up A/C, with too much chrome, huge wingnut valve covers, and you look like everyone else. This is the end result, not to mention that you are $$$out, still not the quickest street car at the track, and can't even drive it on the highway. I like to keep things looking somewhat stock, ie the whole eng painted orange, with a cool sound and consistent e.t.'s of high 13 range. It's nice to have a sleeper that blows cold air!!!! Chevys are new to me. So far, I like them. I used to build pontiacs... good motors but can be expensive to build.

hey pat , i was wondering, how come you only recomend a roller cam over others?
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
