Budget Build 454
How much power can I get out of my 454, I want to do all the right stuff to make it last a while. Make it a 468. I have the 781's heads still deciding on the bigger valves or not. They are bare casting right now. The motor I want to use was running when I took it out of the truck. I suppose it would be better if I tore down the motor before I took it to the machine shop. I'm going to try to get by with 2000-3000 dollars. How much power do you guys think I can get out of it. I don't really want to much compression around 10:1 to keep away from the race gas. The motor also needs to pull 15 inches of vacuum for mud race rules.
Any ideas or suggestions on good cheap power is appreciated. Thanks

you can use hypereutectics pistons speed pro h581cp 119cc/10.2cr get a small roller cam hyd or soild if you have the money and rework the 781 heads you can put the big valves in but what rpm are you running this to ? i would use all stock bottom end recon the rods arp bolts and spend your money on the cam and some head work i would say if done rigth maybe 450+hp this has alot to do with your vacuum talk to cam grinders i would look at maybe a custom grind i would build for tq not hp

I'll probly be running it to 5500-6500, kind of depends on the cam that they figure out for me. I agree with more tq than hp. Thanks for the reply.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
