XE 268 cam for 454
I'm building a motor for my mud truck and I need at least 15 inches of vacuum at 800 rpm for tech in. The motor consist of 781 heads with the bigger valves, 9.5-1 compression. Bored .030 over. I'm either going to run a performer or a performer rpm intake. I was wondering if any of you guys have a build close to this with the xe268 cam in it. The main question is what amount of vacuum can you pull with this cam. This is a pretty big deal I don't want to put the motor in and then not pull enough vacuum. Then I have to bump up a class or put a different cam in it. I would appreciate it if one of you guys could check the vacuum on one of your hot rods and give me some feedback. Thanks

You really need to talk with your favorite cam grinder. Call up one of the tech guys and ask your question.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

I don't believe the cam will be too big for the 454. It also depends what gears you are running in the truck . Match the cam r.p.m.'s with the torque converter, if it's an automatic and the rear end ratio .The 268 should have plenty of vacuam at 800 R.p.m.'s . It really isn't that radical in a 454.

A 350 pulls 15.5 inches at 800 rpm with a XE268 cam. The 454 will probably pull a little more, maybe 17-18 inches at the minimum.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
