how can i tell
I was just wondering if how you tell tell if piston rings are installed backwards? I heard that they will seal at first and then stop after a while allowing gas to get past them. Is there a way to find out with out taking apart the engine?
thanx

Nope. I had a ring installed upsidedown in my dirt bike. It smoked a lot for about 30 seconds after starting it, but that was it. The cam timing was also off by a tooth, that was my fault.

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
