454 supecharger help
Hey guys,
I’ve just bought a Vortech V-7 YSI kit.
I have a 1971 Camaro with th400 and 3.73 gears.
It’s a street/strip car with a BB 454 mark IV (2 bolt main) with main girdles, TRW forged pistons, GM steel forged crank and GM 7/16 "dimple rods" with ARP bolts, and it’s all std (approx 550hp). It has a Dart heads 320cc, 1.7 roller rockers, stud girdles,850cfm mighty demon carburetor, Victor Jr intake manifold, Competition Cam solid flat tappet (advertised duration 274/280, lift .568/.578, lobe 110), Patriot headers (2 in. primary tube diameter,.3.5 in. collector diameter), 3 in. exhaust system, MSD 6AL, MSD Probillet distributor and CSI electric water pump. The compression ratio is 9.5:1.
I am looking for an honest 900 h.p. on pump gas (92/93 octane), want drivebility and reliability. I also have experience with modified engines, but NO Blower experience.
Here are my questions:
Considering the rods, pistons, crankshaft I don’t think the engine will handle more than 900hp, what do u guys think?
My supercharger setup comes with a 5 pound pulley, so how much horsepower it will make? how much boost do I need to make 900hp and how much safe boost do you guys think i can run? With more than 6 pounds do I need a bypass valve and intercooler?
Thank you

now i dont have a vortec supercharger, but i do have a 6-71 blower on my engine, I havent dyno'd it yet we think im doing around 600hp with a 383 sbc. From what i have always heard that with a 6% under drive ( which is common for a 6-71 street blower setup ) that it will add around 100-150 hp. I couldnt imagine that vortec adding 350hp without running major boost, which I doubt you could run on pump gas. Also you think your 2bolt main will hold up to 900hp? I am a engine noob so we will see what others have to say.

Doubt you will get 900 horse.... To even get close you would need the intercooler and a lot more boost then 5 pounds.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yeah, I know that I will not make big power with 5 pounds on boost. The guy from supercharger store told that I need 10 pounds on boost to get 900 horses, but the thing is, Do you guys think that my engine will handle 900hp?

i doubt your engine would last long with 900hp. I think you would need to o-ring your block.

At 9.5:1 c.r., you can only put 4 lbs of boost into the motor on pump gas. Any higher boost will require special fuel.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

hmmmmmmm 548 cid blown 10 mpg. 900 hp out of a stock two bolt block? NO. 700 hp yes and on the the Oring for 900 hp you do not need them the boost will have a bearing on this the 1017 felpros work good or the lsm gaskets
