    Question Adjusting roller tip rockers....

Soon I will be cranking up my freshly rebuilt 454 and I want to make sure I have my rockers adjusted correctly. Here's what I did: I set the number one cylinder @ 0 degrees TDC. Then I ran the lock nut down (#1 cyl int and exh rockers) to the point where I could not lift the rocker tip up off the top of the valve tip, then I ran the nut down an additional quarter turn. I continued to adjust the rest of the cylinders following the firing order by turning the crank. Is this the correct way to adjust the rockers? I was told that I should not run the rockers down to the point where the push rod will not spin because that would possibly bend a push rod upon lifter pump up.....

Thank you Denny, So you say I should go an additional quarter turn? Remember I ran the nut down until I couldn't lift the rocker tip off of the tip of the valve, then an additional quarter turn. Note that I did not run the nut down until I couldn't spin the pushrod. Again thanks for you advice.......

Denny is probably good with that method, but I think I would stick with what you already did. It's not gonna hurt anything at all if you're a bit light, but as he mentioned, too tight is bad. Did you follow the firing order, turning the crank 90* each time and adjusting that way? If so, you'll be fine. That's the way I do mine too.

I like to set juice lifters before installing the intake. It's too easy, with new, dry lifters, to push the plunger down to the bottom of its stroke with the method you used. With no manifold in the way, you can see if the plunger is at the top of the stroke.

Again thank you for you alls advice (very valuable) I did turn the crank 90 degrees following the firing order starting with the # one piston @ TDC compression stroke. Followed the firing order 18436572.
