What Is This 427?
Gidday fellas,Im new to this site, infact new to the internet generally but not new to hotrodding. Could someone please Id this 427 that Im thinking of buying for my next project- 39 chevy coupe. Block casting #38563512 date code E.14.9, Block stamping T06067BJ, Heads casting#3933148, MTRUCK. Thru searching google for a couple days Ive determend that it is proberbly 69 427 335hp but still not sure. Could find no reference to the suffix code.Id like to know exactly what vehicles this engine would have came in. Also, would these heads be classed as peanut or oval port. The joker selling wants around $5k US for it which sounds alot to me but it is standard bore and 427 stuff in Australia is always scarce and expensive. Im wondering what a fair price in the states for this would be? If I do buy it Id need to get it over 400hp without costing too much. Enough questions for now, any info or advice will be real apriciated. THANKS FELLAS HAMMO

the 512 blocks are $$ and on the heads numbers look at mortec.inc on the web they have all the casting numbers and i think 400 hp would not be to hard to do that block would not be cheap here so if the heads are small Oports there is many of them and cheap in the US. them heads do not ring my bell so you will have to look them up i can not tell you much on them but if you buy it and need help on the build i can help. and there is some guys on here to that are sharp to they will help you

I don't know Hammo, US$5K to start with and then have to spend money on it to boot....zowie buffalo bob!!!!!
Is the duty that much from US to Victoria that you couldn't start with a new block and heads and piecemeal it together? Get in touch with Pat McCarthy on this forum. Send him a personal message or email. He's the resident big block Chevy guru and I'm sure he has some parts on hand that he could put you a combo together and ship them for you. Well, I don't know that he would, but I think he would, for a fellow CHR board memberPLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

E.14.9 means May 14, 1969.
3933148 Heads: 69-84, oval port, 112 cc open chamber. Used in '69 396/265hp, 366T, 427T
MTRUCK means marine or truck, I believe.
The block has me mystified. Are you sure you have the number correct?
This may not be the hottest 427 around, but with a little work, you could make that 39 giddyup.Last edited by Henry Rifle; 09-28-2006 at 05:56 AM.

I am showing the heads to be 1969 on either a car or truck.
I am also seeing a combustion chamber size of 122 cc.
Your block casting number has me confused.

well the short deck 427 numbers are 3963512 so who knows what you have .my guess is a tall deck truck block with heads 366 to 427 ???

Thanks fellas for your input. I have checked the mortec site and others but the info between the sites is some what conflicting in what they tell you. I can't find any reference to the block stamping, TO6067BJ, particularly the suffix BJ. I know what the T and the 0606 is but the last 3 digits have still got me baffled. I would still like to get some clues on the number if anyone can help. At the end of the day, as it is a sweet running complete engine, I will probably grab it, especially considering the 512 block. If I decide to change the heads and cam I might just get in touch with you Pat, if that's OK.
