New guy needs Gen V 454 help.....

Hello all! I'm new to this forum as well as the big block world. Here is my problem; I got a 454 bbc out of a running 1994 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. The motor has 200k miles on it so it desperatly needs a rebuild!(but I got it for free so its not that bad ) The motor is going into a project truck of mine, a 1981 chevy crewcab longbed 3+3 one ton 4x4 that I have shortend up by 14" so I could put a shortbed on it. I thought it would be cool to have a truck that chevy never made. (But they should have because the 81 crewcab body style with the shortbed on it looks sweet!!!) The truck has a 6" lift, 35" tires, turbo 400, 205 t-case, dana 60 front, and corperate 14 rear both with 4.10 gears. O.k. back to my problem. The Gen V motor is making it very hard to find information on how to pump the thing up to a reliable 450 h.p. I'm looking for some ideas as well as where to get parts to reach my goal. I could use help on the following:
*Are the heads capable of making that much power?
*Where can I find high compression pistons for my 118cc heads? (like 9.5:1)
*One of the comp cams xtrem 4x4 cams a good choice?
*Can I plug off the oil cooler lines in the block without screwing something up?
Man, i feel like an idiot asking all this but I cant find answers anywhere else. So let the Gen V masters speak up . Thanks in advance guys!

it is the same as any big block as for how to hop it up some thing are not the same as a mark 4 but i have built some and they work good the small o ports may hurt to build they have rotators on IN and EX of the heads so big springs for a new cam will be $$ but you could use rotator eliminators. a good rebuild on the bottom end can take the 450 hp i would run a hyd roller cam for tq good intake and some bigger valves and EX and headers with aX tube. i think you will be happy . pistons are not hard at all they are the same as all big block 454 just pick the type and cr

Thanks Pat, it just seems like everywhere I look they make it sound like the pistons for a 1979 454 are different than a 1994 454. If you look in summit the Speed pro pistons for the 454 all have a ** next to the part number. At the bottom of the list it states **NOT FOR GEN V OR GEN IV ENGINES. I just dont understand what would be different. The stroke maybe? Thanks again for the advice.

no there is not have used stock 454 mark4 pistons in more that one mark 5 -6 they are the same stroke .the ring pack in a mark 5-6 has a small oil ring low tension and the mark6 502 has 2.0mm1.5mm4.0mm set . a stock mark 4 are not 1/6.1/6. 3/16 or 5/64.5/64. 3/16.so you could not just use one piston with your stock mark 5-6 ring set .you would need rings to fit that one mark 4 speed pro piston it would not be the same as a stock mark 5 -6 ring pack that is the only thing that i can see i bore have bore them out and put speed pro pistons in the mark5-6
