    454 Crank Damper

I just bought a new oil pump because I distorted the case while installing the pickup tube!!! A relatively inexpensive lesson. Now I am installing the Crank Damper and got it started with a large socket and some light taps. I had thought to drive it on with the bolt and my air impact wrench. Thought I'd better check before I had another, very expensive, lesson.

Doesn't GM make a tool to use the bolt and seat the Damper? Thanks...

they probably do , but i've always clean the shaft and hub good, put a little grease on the shaft, and using the HB bolt to get it on. tighten the bolt a little and then tap the HB with a hammer, keep tightening and tapping and it should go on.

some dampers need to be check for fit and some times need to be hone it fit to get the right press ,you can get a damper tool at any parts store .that will do a good job of putting it on.BUY ONE. or see if you can rent one from auto zone ? if you must hit it use a rubber hammer or a pice of a 2by4 .a lot of the sfi dampers you do not want to hit it nothing looks nicer than hammer marks on a $300 damper
