torque converter strength
i need to buy a 2000 or 2200 converter and i was wandering what brand you guys have the most success with and by success i mean breaks the least with street driving.
p.s. i have been looking at tci's saturday night spec. or their breakaway series if they are good which one is better?

Hughes are some of the best. I used one of their torque converters and their clutch kits in my th350 (they don't actually make the clutches and steels, those are Red Alto and Kolene).

On the rare occasions that I use an automatic, I've been pleased with Coan products........ Friend of mine runs a TCI trans and converter behind his 383, been in there a couple years now with no problems....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I do know I had it behind my 454 at the time that was only running 6.40's with it.
I put well over 200 pass's on it but every winter I sent it to Coan to be looked at.
I sold it to a local guy and he ran it another few years and sold the car.

I think the TCI stuff is a lot like the B&M Holeshot series.... If you have the converter in the car and the decal on the window, does it really matter if it works right??? (or at all?)I guess if all you are running is a heavy car with 300 horse the cheapies are fun. When you really get ready to go fast, it's going to take a whole lot more converter and $$$$ then the "one size fits all" stuff the mailorder houses pedal....

yes you are right dave low hp and tq there is many that will workBUT the first time you make power and pull out your trans rebuild it and buy a nother cheapy it get you 3/4 of the way to some thing good .it took me some time and money to get that. i really get that now
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
