thanx, that's really helpful, most people i asked about junkyards kept pointing me towards late model salvage yards.

the jackass i was gonna get the 427 from, hadn't had an offer on the thing for about 1 year and a half. he was askin 1g but said he wasn't firm, i made him an offer but now all of a suden he wants to seel some other crap with it and wants at least 1200. so i left that alone. i'll check back in a while if i don't find anything else. and i don't think he really knew what he was talking about. i'm not even sure it was a 427, it was probly a 421 with the tri power out of a gto(or something like that, whatever they came with the tri powers.)

what's a good donor vehicle to looke for, i'd like a standard deck 4 bolt main 454 or 427?

Whats the deal with the 402s? Are they really just a factory bored 396, do they have more meat in the cylinder walls? My buddy is about to start a buildup of one, bad idea?

what about cuttin a tall deck block down to standard height. would it cost too much or would it make the block usless, would it then be the same as a standard deck block.

And as one story went they were stored in a damp warehouse which lead to the blocks needing to be bored ...chevy did run alot of 402's in cars badged 396 because of the great sucess of the 396 ( don't mess with sucess ).....anyway 396/402 are great blocks and should be able to go another .060 no problem...........or throw that crank in a 454 and injoy your 427
