Can I use 1 781 and 1 049 head together
Like the title says, I am looking at a set (I use that term loosely) heads and 1 is a 781 and 1 is a 049 head. Both have had a valve job with 2.19/ 1.88 valves which are stainless, etc.
Would this be a problem? Are these heads close enough to work together like this? They seller says both were worked on together so.......what are your thoughts

My research says the only difference is port volume. 256/114 for the 336781 and 255/119 for the 353049. Not far enough apart to be a problem in my neck of the woods, although Pat McCarthy may have a different take on it. I'd say run 'em.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. These will be run on a 26' boat with a 454 motor. I just want a little more breath than the peanuts offer that are on her now. I figured the heads would be close enough but wanted some expert opinions...

Thanks Pat. These are just going in my boat, and I'm not worried about 100% performance, just want the reliability because it sucks getting towed off the ocean LOL. I've been looking for heads now for some time for my boat, and these are pretty close to my house so I wouldn't need to pay shipping. If I can get them cheap I'll pick them up. As far as machine work, the seller says:
STAINLESS VALVES, INTAKE 2.190 EXHAUST 1.880, GUIDE PLATES
SCREW IN STUDS PORTED POLISHED, BOWL AREA CLEANED UP UNDER VALVES, READY TO BOLT ON AND RUN, CASTING # ARE 386781 AND 353049

Oh, what would be a good price for these heads since the seller says they are ready to bolt on (we'll see) and have the bigger stainless valves? My plan would be to buy them, install them as is and run them this summer. Then come winter time depending on how she ran in the summer, either swap cam and do some head work, or maybe take the plunge and do the whole 496 thing.....

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
