454 heater hoses
I put on a hv aluminum water pump on my engine installation. I bought the pump 6 months ago and now I am doing the finishing touches on the engine before firing it up for the first time. Well I noticed the pump only had 1 hole on the back and that goes to the intake, my other one had 2 holes, one to the intake and one to the heater hose. Is their another way to do the heater hose? I have a performer manifold with the 2 holes on the the upper part of the manifold. Thanks everyone.

They designed (or anticipated) the return hose for the radiator. Common on a lot of non specific pumps. As Denny requested, please post a pic if you can. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

Sorry guys no pics, the one goes to the inlet on the front of the manifold, this I know. I have 2 other 3/4 size holes on the top of the manifold that water goes through, one is for the heater hose. Can I circulate the heater if I use the other one with the other hose? They are both on the same passage. My other heater hose went to the 2nd hole on the water pump but the new pump only has one.

Is there anyway to route one of the heater hoses from the head? And then of course the other one would go to the intake manifol on top.

Thanks I get it know. I will tear the pump back off and get a new one.

Why do some people block off and disconnect the small hose that comes form the front of the intake manifold and connects to the top of the water pump?
Is this OK to do? What is it's purpose? I have a BBC Moroso water pump I would like to use, but it doesn't even have this connection on it.Last edited by Gusaroo; 08-16-2008 at 09:26 PM.

Denny, Are you asking me or are you quizzing me? I have no idea what this little hose does, I can guess that it helps flow to the top end of the motor. This is my first BB. I don't know much about them.
I was going to NOT run my heater core for now, maybe add it later. I do not believe my belair has a shut off valve in the heater hose. I got the car disassembled, no motor, so I will have to check out the shop manual.Last edited by Gusaroo; 07-17-2007 at 03:58 PM.

Gus, he's quizzing you to get you to dig in a bit deeper. He gave you a fantastic diagram earlier that if you follow the flow of the coolant, it helps you understand what and why it has to be done the way he described. Hang in there Gus, it will all come to you on theory and operation. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

I see the small loop in the diagram, not really sure what its purpose, or why mororso makes a water pump that doesn't accommodate this loop.Last edited by Gusaroo; 08-16-2008 at 09:26 PM.

Until the T-stat opens you have aeration due to heating of the coolant. This allows a "bypass" to keep circulation of the coolant until proper temps are met. There are theories of other benefits for this purpose and I only subscribe to a few of those. It is just a great idea to keep it functional for street running. The Moroso (and others) pump is and was primarily designed and intended for drag racing and such where the whole attitude is different. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?
