    Need 550 HP

Need to build a 489" BB to produce 550HP, but, it must make enough vacuum to run my PB, Cruise, AC, and all the other "creature comforts" I like.

I'm thinking 10-1 compression with a hydraulic cam in the neighborhood of 236 @ .050 with .556 lift. I'll run an Edelbrock Performer RPM with an 850 Holley.

Headers with a 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust.

It will be backed up by a T-400 with a 3000 convertor (remember I put street miles on this thing) and a 3:70 Posi rear.

I'm hauling 4500 Lbs and I could use some cylinder head ideas.

    What is your budget??
You did'nt say if you have an oval port intake or a rec. port intake.
I can tell you that you won't get it done with just a hyd. cam and stock heads.
If you go 049,781 heads with 2.19/1.88 valves with a bunch of port work and a hyd. roller cam with about the same 236 at .050 then it is possible.
For after-market heads in an oval I would run a well ported 270 oval cc Brodix Race-rite or a well ported 265 oval AFR head.
In rec. port either a 294 Brodix or a 305 AFR.

i think i would build tq and not worry about the 550 hp i would think about some after market O ports i have built some of the 489/496 never and any dyno the 049/781 heads will work but they may not be the best bang for the buck less you can machine them your self

Checkout www.speedomotive.com for their stroker BBC. You can see what they use to build 500 and 580 hp engines. I believe these use Merlin Oval Port heads. They use to post a dyno sheet for each engine.

I have a 550 hp zz502. Same build as dyno'd at Sallee chevy. To get there it has some mild port work and a taller Crane cam (587/610).

I have recently read the vacuum 850 is not that great a match as well. It took a modified double pumper to really get it running right ...........
