Gah! I need some advice!
ok, I got my truck running like a top yesterday. Timed it just right, ran smooth and strong. Last night I ran out of fuel (gas gauge broke) which was no big deal cause it was just sitting there idling till it was warm enough to leave my g/fs house. Well they gave me a fuel jug they had in a shed that had about 1/3-1/2 of "gasoline" in it that they use for the lawn mower.. well it wasnt enough... So i ran to the station and got some more gas, got it started and now it pops like a SOB at idle. Off idle is fine as far as I can tell it seems to run ok... I didn't change anything on the truck, just put gas in it, so my only idea is that the gas was bad.... what do you guys think?

Could be some old gas....and sometimes the containers get some junk in them or by running the truck completely out of fuel you might have pulled some crud out of the bottom of the tank... Sounds like some of the crud found it's way into the carb and blocked an idle passage???? Sometimes this stuff does make it's way past the fuel filter...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

sounds like water in the fuel. gas cans are famous for that. go to the autoparts store and get some additive and see if that helps.BARB

I actually put some additive in it last night when I filled it up in hopes it might help my problem, also I used higher octane gas... I'm worried tho because it is a very metallic popping sound similar to tapping a pipe with a hammer

the sound is rhythmic tho like in particular cylinder, could it be a valve issue?

it sorta backfired up through the carb. I don't even know if you would call it a backfire. It didn't pop it kinda huffed and smoke came out of the breather and then started up.

My best guess would be that one of the cylinders (or more) was just on the verge of detonation (very high cylinder pressure) with the good gas. Then when you put the crap gas in, the one or more cylinders began detonating due to low fuel quality. Back off the timing a little, change all fuel filters and load the tank up with good fuel.
Like I said, just my best guess.

ok i'll try that! I have had a hard time with the timing (no pun intended) maybe thats the problem!
Ever since putting 2.02 camel humps on my 350, as I am cruising there is a slight surging in the engine. If I put my foot in it to give it load it is smooth as can be. Have done many different timing...
