Buying a BBC Crate Motor... HELP!!
I'm about to purchase a BBC crate engine and am not sure where to look first. I am going with the short block on this purchase b/c i have a great set of BBC Trick Flop Alum. heads and brand new edelbrock air gap intake. I'm also planning on running a 750 holley with vacuum secondaries on top. Anyone have any advice for me on buying a short block crate engine? Thanks all!

Welcome to CHR, Gi0220! We have quite a few BBC owners and builders here who I am sure can give you very good advice.
Where are you planning to buy your short block? Local seller, GM Performance Parts Dealer, or retailer like Summit or Jegs??Bob
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!

Ibought mine from Gilbert Chevy (formerly Sallee) in Oregon. Shipping was $210 3 years ago. It will cost you now fort sure. I would try Summit or Jegs.

i am just looking for a short block b/c i already have a nice set of heads, edelbrock air gap intake and 750 holley carb. I think im going to go with a motor from a major distributor so that i can trust it and be confident in the quality of the motor. Anyone have any experience with BluePrint Engines? Looking at their 496 short block for 3,700.

I know a couple people running motors from these guys and they are very happy with them. Not sure if they do short blocks....Last edited by ceh383; 06-21-2008 at 01:29 PM.

Hoping Pat McCarthy will see this thread, he builds some wicked short blocks, made me one heck of an offer on a 496, maybe if I ever get my pickup done and sold.......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

gi0220 I ran a 383 Blueprint crate for a year w/o problems until the crank broke. Ran hard almost every weekend and won 2 different class championships. I'm not sure about short blocks but alot of folks round here have not had a good experience with their warranty-including me. If you do go this route be sure to get the no-fault warranty if offered.
