WOW! Thanks guys, this forum has REALLY helped me! I think Ill call COMP back and DEMAND a roller system! Doesnt make much sense to me to "take a chance"................This ISNT a HUGE build, it has semi stock heads, 10:1 compression and the cam, thats about it. But Im just a workin stiff that has about 6K in this motor. I have 2 teenage boys and we havent even got 50 miles of riding in the car yet after a year!!!!!!!!!!

OK! Next BIG question................do I pull the motor and try and clean it out or stand over it with a bucket of Kerosene and wash it out and HOPE for the best?????????????? Gimme some feedback fellas! THANK YOU!

You COULD get lucky and not have any metal in the oil galleys.....of course if your not lucky you won't know until you wipe the crank out, starve a lifter, or any other number unpleasant circumstances.
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

My vote would have to go for a complete disassembly and cleaning.... Hate to put the money for the build at risk..... Those little pieces have a nasty habit of hiding, then breaking loose and doing damage later..... Please don't ask how I know this can happen......

I used to be a die-hard Kendall GT-1 user. I always used Nitro-70 in my race cars and 20W-50 in everything else I own. Then, for some reason, everyone in town quit carrying Kendall, so I switched to Castrol GTX. I have never had an oil-related failure in anything I have owned...

Mike P - Take it apart and clean everything. A few years ago, we ruined a camshaft in a brand new engine (caused by unexpected coil bind on the valve springs) the first time at the track with it. When we pulled the bottom end apart, the rod and main bearings had tiny particles of cast iron (from the cam) imbedded in them and had already started to score the crank journals. Fortunately, we caught the problem soon enough and we were able to get by with just having the crank polished and installing a new set of bearings.

I use Rotella in a fresh engine, Mobil 1 synthetic as soon as the rings are seated...

It's not just Comp, all the cam companies are having similar problems......

when the cam wipes it can throws iron trash up on the pistons skirts and walls so it should get busted down rering and new cam/rods /main /bearings if needed jet wash or hot tank every thing and polish the crank go over the pistons to make sure there is no iron in the skirts

....hmmm, I don't mean to hi jack your post but; Is this why the camshaft in my SBC broke??? The motor had around 10,000 miles on it, with Comp Cam Hyd lifters. I was just driving down the street & WHAM!!! The motor quit & when I got it home I pulled the valve covers. The valves/rocker arms for the front two cylinders {one on each side} moved up/down just fine. The other six cylinders valves/rocker arms were dead still when I turned the motor over..... A guy that was over at my house said that the cam broke right at a cam bearing journal..... .... Bill

Thanks guys.............So I guess Im doing my first "rebuild" (clean-up) in the garage this summer! So my next question is, can I just replace the cam and lifters with a roller system and not change anything else? Im looking for the exact same cam grind in a roller ( Comp 292 MAGNUM) so seat pressure and spring strength should all be the same right? I JUST WANT MY BABY BACK before the summer is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS guys.......

you need a set of comp retro push rods 7815-16 they are 3/8 push rods so you need guide plates .cam button.a chain set with brass bearing or torrgton bearing if you are using a small lift cam your springs could work i like a bit more spring on a roller cam
