    427 Dump truck motor

i've found a 427 in a dump truck that i could get for free. I was wondering if its worth the hassle to take it out and use it in an ice drag vehicle. is there any performance potential. I ve heard that they have a higher deck height. Any info on this motor would be great. Sorry but i dont know the year of it. Thanks

427's are the best motor you can BUY if you can get it for free get it. put dual holley's on and bolt on some patriot sidepipes. My uncle has this setup in his 73 vette, it sounds nice.

I also forgot, 427's burn themselves up so they need to be rebuilt in 10- 15 years or 50- 100 thousand miles ( depending on driving style )

I bought a 427 Truck motor for like 50.00 once. I took it to a guy I know who owns a machine shop and he made a stroker motor out of it actually. The difference, if I remember correctly was it used a different crank as well as car rods. It has been about 12 years ago so I am a little fuzzy on the details. I know the crank was the expensive piece to the whole thing. I do remember it came out to 513 c.i. and was a beast! I put it in a 66 chevelle with a powerglide and 456 gears. It ran in the high 5's at the 1/8 mile track on street tire (60's). That is one of those I'd like to have back...*sigh*
