    I just bought the old truck to resell the drivetrain. I have had guys ask if it is 4 bolt mains. Is there a way to tell besides dropping the pan?

    Check the engine # stamped on the boss in front of the passesger side cylinder head. You should be able to check that # either in an ID book, website, or a GM dealers parts dept to tell you what you've got.
