    496 Build

I am preparing to start a build on a 496 BBC and need some suggestions to come up with the best possible engine combination (cam, heads & C.R). My car is a 67 Chevelle with a 4:10 rear end gear and a 4 speed manual transmission, no power brakes. This car is street driven but only as a weekend warrior. I have a set of GM open chamber square port heads with a matching factory intake. I would like to use these parts but have heard many negatives about using the square ports. I don’t have any issues running racing fuel or changing the rear end gear but would like the engine to appear stock with the exception of headers. Any suggestion would be of great help.

    Cam selection help needed.

Thanks for the input on the heads. I decided to go ahead and use the square ports. I was planning on running a HYD roller cam but after reading through some of the past posts a solid roller seems to be preferred or I may be confused. The engine is going to have some were around 12:1 compression and the car now has a 4:10 rear end, willing to change if needed. The cam manufactures always seem to recommend cams on the conservative side, I have used comp cams in the past but that does not seem to be the number one choice ether. Any help on cam selection would be of great help.
    Thanks Ed
