that cam will work with stock springs but if you go past 500 you will have to do more then springs some bbc do not have much valve reliefs in the pistons and some heads need rotator eliminators on the EX and if small port heads they need them on the intake side as well if you go past that cam i posted then you need to cut the guildes down for more lift or use a GM l88 reataner and seal springs H.O.GM #14097002. works good .this is used on the the boats Hi-perf gm engines that will get you to 560 lift with no work on the headsLast edited by pat mccarthy; 04-21-2009 at 05:06 PM.

Can anyone give me the stock valve spring OD or a suggestion for a valve spring I can use on my oval port heads that will not require any type of machining. I want to just swap them out witout removing the head.
thanks

Pat, I looked up that spring after I posted. Should of done that first. I am looking at some springs they have at summit that are 1.454 OD and 1.070 ID comp cams brand to go with a comp cams thumpr series (.498 int/.483 exh with 227/241 @50 with a 107 LS). I do not know the year of the heads. The motor is supposed to be a crate motor I got and it does have oval port passenger heads. I will look at the casting #'s tonight. This is going into a rat rod so just want something that sounds nasty.

Heads are casting # 336781 73-85 open chamber and it looks like they have the exhaust rotator eliminators (cup under the spring on exhaust). Yeah it is a 34 International.

there was a guy in town that had a 34 tub out .that i painted many moons ago. the truck was sold . the new owner wanted to race it at the drag strip but it needed seat belts so this guy nail the new seat belts in to the cab wood with roofing nailsi seen it done
at that point i knew he did not have a full deck

Pat thanks for your help on this got everything in and running good. Sounds much better now.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
