"o" rings in the block
The block I'm building has o rings machined in it, 454 70 over mark IV. the fel pro gaskits 1017-1 lands on the cuts inbetween the bores. Should I fill it back in with copper wire and machine it flat? This is going to be a street motor 9.5 to1.

you could deck them off but you will loose deck . and need to rework the pistons or go to a custom CR piston the 1017-1 gasket is for a 4.530 max bore and is big on CC so if the o rings are smaller then the 1017-1? if the fire ring of the 1017 is bigger then were the wire groove is in the deck just take the wire out of the deck and used a bigger head gasket bore if that will not work use copper wire with the 1017 if you have to. if you can re work your pistons for new deckIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

the fire rings on the gaskit is inside the wire grooves except between the bores. If i put copper wire back in do I have to machine it flat with the deck to use the 1017?

copper wire should crush if you drive the wire in the deck and then file it flat would work. not doing any thing the wire will bed in the gasket some what but can hold up the gasket and leak .how hi is the wire out of deck?. i would use ss wire and go with a small bore copper head gasket and coat the head gasket with hylomar and go that way now the deck is cut for wireLast edited by pat mccarthy; 11-18-2009 at 08:09 PM.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
