i get the head on the mill cc them before i cut them to see were they realy are at with the valve job done put two valves in cc the head take valves out mill what i think .put valve back in cc the head mill more if needed .it takes time but it works and it right. it works out to about .1cc for every 005 off the head. i set the block on the mill and O deck it or very close this help s alot to get were you want to be if you want to get more CR . i use the BHJ true deck blue print fixture.i am doing a 454 flat top piston blower engine the decks were WAAAAAAAAAY off 015 on both sides of the block . from were it should of been .O deck is about 9.780 on most pistons. i add the CH of the piston the rod and 1/2 the stroke and cut to O . i like to do it this way i get the block true and use a 039 head gasket and do not have to run a thin tin head gasket.i do not care to run the piston much closer then 039 to the head you get some piston rock it not hard to be + the deck by 005 when the piston rocksLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-20-2009 at 06:45 PM.
