Attn: Pat McCarthy... i need advice
It seems your the man on this forum. So here i am asking you a couple questions.
I am building a bracket race 402, the heads are port/polished 820's with 2.19/1.88 and have been cc'd at 113. I have a comp cams 292dur. 550 lift hydraulic cam. Victor O intake and a quick fuel 750 holley.I have scat rods w bushed ends and cap screws. The crank was check and is straight and polished.
Its going in a 70 chevelle with a t350, ati converter, 4.88, and a 30"x9" tire. It weighs about 3650 w/ driver.
I am in need of a set of forged pistons and im looking for around 9.5 -10.5 compression. I was thinking something TRW. What would you recommend without buying custom.
What kind of hp and torque should an engine like this make?
How fast do you think it will go?
This is my 1st bbc venture. The reason for the 402, the price was right for a carb to pan low miles engine.
Thanks,
John

the last set of pistons i pick up for a 402 were speed pros, most of the stuff i work with is 4.280 and up bore pistons .so there not alot of builder of shelf pistons to pick thru . you may want to check out weisco pistons they make a good piston how fast ? honestly hard to say. i build most all build BBC s ups with soild rollers or hyd rollers the last engine close to your car with a 488 gear and a 3800 stall run s mild 11 s in street trim, i thinking i would not use the cam you have can you give me more spec s on the camLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-17-2010 at 07:57 PM.

Ok ive purchased a set of KB Icon forged pistons.
PN IC9949 comp height of 1.765 dome .580" and -41cc
Hopefully these will work with the 113cc heads i have. I also changed cams to a comp cams solid roller. Picked it up bn for cheap.
Lobe cent angle 110
Intake cent 106
Dur @ .050 IN. 254 EX. 260
Lift IN .660 EX .666
Looking for a guess on power and any other words of wisdom.
Thanks

well hard to say how much hp should be hi 500+hp if every thing is on the money cam is going to need some CR. i did not look up or work out the CR for you so that will bear on the power out put with that cam .. heads should be fine for the job . i would say at better then 10.5. to make this work you need a bit of stall over 2800 . i think you will fined that the 750 carb may run out of steam more cfm maybe needed but try it for the strip keep the 488 gear. make sure you run good valves and good valve spings for a roller cam. mock up one piston in the block and check that the piston dome will not hit any were on the head chamber and check piston to valve as wellLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-02-2010 at 09:08 AM.
