Cam buttons and timing covers
with all the good things Im rearing about roller cams. Tell me about cam buttons, the spacing the cam has to have, and a good timing cover to use.Ill use full kit from comp cams, cam, springs, lifters, chain, push rods, ect, the kit comes with the button also, cloyes has a nice die cast cover for the 454-- ill have to call them and see if it works with the cam set up,The wife has me on a diet patch, but I don't think its work'in, she said you have that thing on right? said, ya, on my arm. She said, dumb ass, it go's over your mouth!

less then your posted numbers . you do not need much end play with roller button and roller thrust washer . (bronze washer) i like if going on the street and a solid button can wear in some. but I think the solid button and bronze washer can take can take more of a back and forth. EZ to fit the solid button with not many tools .i like just a stock tin front cover .i set them with not much end play . there is some oiling things i do as well . and some other things that i do not care to talk about have to keep some thing s to my self . JERRY may chime in to get away from all this stuff is to use the mark 6 cam. the cam is cut for a plate that will bolt to all the gm mark 4 blocks some of the early 396/427 and the tall decks may not have the holes in the front drilled and tap but not hard to drill and tap i done it . you end up with a mark 6 cam . cam plate. chain set. and no buttonsLast edited by pat mccarthy; 04-15-2010 at 06:59 PM.

So this " button" is between the cam gear and and chain cover? it bolts on ? also read that the sheet metal covers can be pushed out by the cam? thats why I looked into the cast cover. The wife has me on a diet patch, but I don't think its work'in, she said you have that thing on right? said, ya, on my arm. Yes, techinspector that is the first one I looked at. I think this company has been around awile. I looked at the comp cams because pat said the cast cover may need some milling to get it to work. I think Ill call them to see if it will work with the comp cam, that would save some money. The wife has me on a diet patch, but I don't think its work'in, she said you have that thing on right? said, ya, on my arm. wear plate?
I think evey time a read something about roller cams I add another part to the list so tell me about wear plates for the front of the block. Do I have to mill the back of the cam spocket? Iv seen something called a torrington bearing that would go between the cam and block , is this better? The wife has me on a diet patch, but I don't think its work'in, she said you have that thing on right? said, ya, on my arm. i used them every way you can think of . for street the solid bronze thrust washer is fine you can buy a timming set this way .you do not need to cut the block for a ware washer less the block is worn in here . i also have used a plane upper top gear with no thrust washers as well all will work .i think i posted about this ? yep #4 postIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
