Difference in 454 Chevys
This might be a dumb question, but is there a difference in a 454 chevy motor from say a 1970 Chevelle and one from like a 90's pickup?
Also, which is better for street use, open or close chamber heads?
thanks for any help.

yes there is a mark 4.5.6 what one is better ? well i build all of them not many parts will mix and match . i like the mark 4 .1970 thru late 80s but have built some of them 5 and 6 blocks as well .i like the closed up deck on the older mark 4 blocks .but like the 6 for hyd roller use as its all set up for hyd rollers from GM and i only build bbc with roller cams .i can make any of them run.as for open or close heads would have more to do with the flow of the head port size and valve size. chamber size has abit more to do with what CR your trying to get .i have made both heads workLast edited by pat mccarthy; 05-14-2010 at 06:09 PM.

Very good info thanks.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
