220 at idle, or 220 going down the road? Could be running lean (checked the plugs?), could be too far advanced on the timing, or not advanced enough. need a little more information on your fuel set up, cam timing, ect. if you are running a carb is your fuel pressure set right? Could be a few different things. If you can't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them!

Are you using aluminum heads? I think that helps.

I thought my 454 was running a little hot, but a friend of mine said the newer engines were made to run hotter than the classic engines I am more accustomed to.
The 454 I am running is a TBI engine out of a 1992 Suburban.

jerry is right.is the radiator stock for your body??? if so could be to small. i always run a 4-core radiator with any big block.i would replace the 160 with a 195.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
