Thread: Priming oil taking a long time?

even with the proper priming tools and methods that include rotating the crank, I have seen numerous times when custoners have put there stuff together after we have machined things for them that had difficulty priming the motor--
usually they have used generous amounts of assy lube and loaded the pushrods with it---an oil system at 60-70 lbs cold will have a difficult time of pushing the assy lube out of the pushrods on the dist side oil galley. I only use a drop of assy lube on the tip of the pushrod and with the proper(or modded dist) tool the system will flow all the way to the end lifter quickly
another way to check is remove the #2 cyl intake lifter and you will get oil (and bleed air out of the gally) to verify that the engine is thruly primed>
also on BBC (and others) don't forget the vented gally plugs

i rotate the crank 90 degrees every 15 seconds or so.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
