502 HO cam change
New to the site and impressed with advice and experience shared. I just installed a 502 HO (450 advertised hp) in, get this, my 69 Kingswood wagon fac 4-speed. I have a pair of GM Perf alum '400 heads, rec port, 2.25 intakes decked to 110 cc chambers, hoping to make 9:25 CR. Currently running a M-22 and 3:73 rear.
Want to replace present cam with a moderately bigger hyd roller like what's in the ZZ502? Any recommedations appreciated....

Roger that! That was the next step after hearing from anyone with experience or an opinion. Hard to adjust to not trying to max out engine output, but to make it a bit snappier. For use on the road with no track ambitions......

Then try to call Howard Cams
They seem to know their stuff.
Can't wait to fire up my sbc, lots of good info Billy gave me on cams.

cam i use in many builds is erson cams 620/620@050 236/242 on 112 have one with a 4/7 swap if your look for a cam . they sound good and seam to work good for street strip use .the rolling thunder edelbrock cam looks good to. very close to the ersons grind .i have used all of howards hyd rollers and alot of there solids rollers. there is 3 grinds that i use in ersons for most of my BBC builds . if you have a mark 6 block you have to watch the lift of the cam hi lift cams push up the lifter s up to hi and bleed off the lifter at full liftLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-20-2010 at 09:06 PM.

Pat:
Appreciate the advice and knowledge that goes into it! Let me know if you are dealer/ seller and I would rather give folks on this site what business I can gin up rather than to the big box mail order sellers! With that erson 620/620, we are looking at a firing order switch for # 4 and 7 cylinders?

yep the order gets swap 4/7 moved it pricey cam.. but i can sell it at a hell of a deal i have cams left over from some builds i do .at the end of the season . i like to clear some of the stuff that i have pickup for builds that we went another way on some stuff get open up can not be sent back. so i can sell under dealer on them parts. i am a dealer on many race parts not sure if they like that much on here. so if you want P.M me .some have dealed with me on here. i have a engine machine shop/engine builder as well. so i do know what works and fits. has for the big box stores i build a fair amount of bbc over the years with hyd roller cams and solid rollers you may not get some one on the phone thats done as many builds as i have. when it comes to big block chevys they can look it up .but i been there and done it thats is worlds apartLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-22-2010 at 08:34 AM.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
