Opinions & HP Estimates
Hello all, Im new to this forum and to big blocks as well. I played around with alot of small block stuff but never got interested in the bbc till here recently.
Me and my Dad are restoring an 82' Chevy Scottsdale half ton pickup. We took the original 305 out and are in the process of rebuilding a 454 that I picked up fairly cheap.
I am just rebuilding the 454 as it is with the addition of some long tube headers and an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake. The block is bored 60 over with stock crank and rods with flat top pistons. The heads are 781 castings and it has an Erson rv15h cam in it 214/214 dur at 50 with a 492 valve lift on a 111 lsa. I am going to put a holley 650 carb on it.
Our goal is to keep the appearance and over all quality of the truck in pretty much stock form. It's blue and white two tone with some 15x10 ralley wheels. We are just wanting to put some pep under the hood for a sleeper affect.
What I am wondering is what kind of horsepower/torque and performance I can expect to see from this motor with the setup I have listed above. I know the cam isnt huge or anything but the funds for this motor are pretty limited and I would like to leave it as it is. I am expecting the cam will have a very slight rough idle seeing as its ground on a 111 lsa.
Any comments, opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all!

The 454 in my truck is basic stock .060 over with 781 heads, RV cam, Performer intake, and 670cfm Holley. Dyno sheet says 425hp @ 5000 rpm.

well i look it over i think it may not make 420hp .but should be 370 or so i could tell you abit of pull a rabbit out of my hat B.S on dyno numbers .till it running on the real dyno . cam is small but your low on cr and thats ok. if that all you have. with out doing some decking and getting the piston were it needs to be and a 4 angle valve job and some tricks i know . i will stick at mild to hi 300 hp. 650 cfm is abit small but off idle response should be good TQ numbers everyone over looks but thats what you really need and you should have lots of that.rv15h ERSON 214/214 ..492/492.112 ADV 4 put the intake at 108 thats what my book list it atLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-15-2010 at 09:19 PM.

Thanks for the info pat!
Oh and I forgot to add, the heads will have a fresh 3 angle valve job.
I hope the truck proves to be a good sleeper that I can go cruise the line with and have some fun in. There's a guy that cruises the line in an 86 chevy shortwide with a mildly built 383 in it with vortec heads and a nice sounding cam. I hope to give him a good run from a roll!

Another question PAT!
This motor has a set of sealed power pistons in it with a 426P part number on them which should make it a 1.625 compression height. Are the the right ones that need to be in this motor with the setup I have?

hyper piston 100 dome 4.000 crank 6.135 rod stock 454 8.5.1 cr with 118 so yes the CH is some what right but if you knew that you should know they will work ? they should be more then 1.625 thats 040 to get to O deck most piston are 1.645CH for 454 and thats a deck of 9.780 so thats. 020 off the deck to get OIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
