Build or buy ?
I have an orig 427 66 vette and with the purchase came a partial engine. Its a former drag motor, bored 100,000, steel crank, L-88 heads and matching intake, stock manifolds. Never having built a big block ( more familiar with the mouse version ) will the heads work for street duty ? They have been ported by Morrison of Ca, and look like they could flow the west wind easily.
So my question, have several candidates for the 4k mark, used 390 hp complete motors or buy all the components needed to complete the engine i own. The used would be rebuilt, balanced, and roller cam added. Also open to the type size of the most streetable carburator. I'm after a healthy, cool running, responsive engine that will turn the rear tires a time or two when needed.
If I go with the used 390hp I have another project in mind for the other engine so it will not sit on the side lines indefinately. Just want to install an engine for street duty shortly. Thanks.

ok you lost me you have a L88 427 parts and a built 390 hp ? or you want to buy a long block ? i would go the flat top or small dome lower CR hyd roller cam or soild if you want the sound and start at 489to 496 engine or use parts you have so you have ported heads intake and a bbc with a over bore of 100. over i hope its fresh bore there not much room left to rework bore if needed . heads could be over work and may not work very hot at low speed for the street use. i build mosty all bbc for street to strip 396to632 i have a engine machine shop. sell new and used parts . so i can help you on any level of this build or something that will work on pump fuelIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
