Connecting rod "Please Help"
I have a set of rods and pistons i bought last summer for my 468 build and it had a spun bearing. We weren't able to get the burn completely out of the rod so were looking for a new one and having a hard time finding one!! From what i'm told it's out of a Gen IV Marine engine. It has "GMD" on the left side of the rod and "245" on the right side. That's all that marking's it has. Any help would be nice!!
The red square box is where I'm having the problems all the others I've seen have that part cut of making it weigh less than this one!
ThanksLast edited by Hoss Blazer; 01-18-2011 at 09:24 AM.

hell no just a 454 and truck rod i seen them in many bbc s that is the better of the two 3/8 bolt rods as it has more metal in the fork end of the beam thats why there called thumb rods you can set your thumb in the bottom end of the beam. i used that rod most of the time for a mild build i seen engines with a 4 car rods open web down by the fork end and 4 thumb rods in the same engineLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-18-2011 at 10:02 AM.

well i seen it that way . why GM ran out of one rod ? or the rebuilder just used what they had hard to say but i seen it. as for the rod yes i seen them in marine use BUT why would you buy one new rod from gm when you can buy a set of 8 used ?or one or two? this rod could be or not listed as a HD 3/8 rod from GM? there no assurance thats the rod you going too get ? i seen that rod in tall decks as well but seen 454 come with thumbs and the other of the two 3/8 rods . i would not buy a new rod from gm they know make a thinner rod beam in the mark 5/6 engines. you really need to make shure your getting a thumb rod from GM .like i said i know i have some used cores some were set up for floating pin end so if i have a press pin one then i will sell you a rod that can be rebuilt thats not been burt up .if the rest were hurt your rod s centers could be all over the map as the rods get shorter as they get cut to put the big end back to sizeLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-18-2011 at 11:40 AM.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
