    rebuilt gen 6 454 questions

Hello all thought I would get some suggestions on a gen 6 454 I had rebuilt and installed in a 89 iroc-z. I am not happy with the performance I am getting out of it. The car ran a 14.6 @ 92 mph in the 1/4 took off like a rocket but half way down the track seemed like it was not gaining power. I built this engine on a small budget and this was my first build. Here is what I have.

    Gen 6 454

stock bore machine shop installed rebuild kit with flat top pistons has 8.1 comp and turned stock crank.

heads are 100cc closed chamber machine shop installed lunati springs and did a 45 degree angle cut for the valves. I installed heads with fel-pro gaskets and used 1.7 adj aluminum roller rockers. With new lunati push rods.

Cam is a lunati voodoo flat tappet cam 262/268 rpm 1400-5800 lift .530-.542 sep angle 112 (I know this is a roller block and roller cam should have been used but again built on a budget and machine shop said would be fine.

Intake is a edelbrock air gap and carb is a edelbrock 800cfm carb both new.

Distrubutor is a procomp ready to run with a procomp coil.

Exhaust is new summit stock gen 6 exhaust manifolds (could not afford the $500 swap headers) goes 2 1/2 pipe to thrush glass packs and kick out in front of rear tires.

long water pump, 100amp 1 wire alternator and stock power steering pump.

Trans is a auto 700r4 with a 2200 tci stall.

Stock camaro gears believe they are 2:77

Car has 18inch rims with low pro tires.

The car does run good feels like the torque is good fun street car but would like to get a little more out of it. Thanks all.

running out of fuel .did you tune this thing how much on the crank how much total timing .how fast is it coming in ? how tall is the back tire . how are you getting the hood to shut ? getting air to the engine ? how did you adjust the lifters ? the mark 6 has bolt stand .did you drill the heads for old bbc 7/16 studs or did you get the arp 7/16 top studs and the 3/8 bottom studs135-7102? for your heads. what push rods did you used ? i hear you say you had no money .what timing set did you use to clear the die cast cover .a stock old timing set if so did you degree it.....? you know cams are not that much i would of left it a roller hope the boys at that machine shop got you the right parts to swap it to hyd flat lifter cam . i spend lot of time swaping older block to rollers cams i just do not think that was a good move roller cams take outs are 40.00
