Rocker arm question
Still building my bbc for replacement in my truck.
Any problem running long slot OEM style rocker arms with my build?
Cam is a comp cam XR276 roller lifters with .510 lift.
I want to run the factory valve covers because I think I will have clearance issues with the power brake booster.
The short block is completed with 26cc domes with small peanut port heads with recommended springs, retainers, and locks.
I have heard of some long slot rocker problems with large cams.
Do you think I will have any problems with this as a daily driver that will seldom see over 5500 rpm???

i have ran 610+ lift with long slots . i used crane golds will clear stock covers with a thick valve cover gasket long as the valve covers have drippers if so the drippers will have to be bent or trimed i ran steel rocker every day .gm still makes them and they hold up good there is some added friction at the ball socket /fulcrum and ratio may not be a true 1.7 but they will work good. i feel they have better hold out then cheap roller rockers i really do not like the grooved balls every one thinks there better for holding oil but the groove cuts the load abilities of the ball and have seen the rocker bodys cut in to the rockers. i used to use good used stock low hp balls on the long slot rockers.Last edited by pat mccarthy; 02-27-2011 at 09:20 AM.

I am changing out the rotators for rotation eliminators that the machine shop used. He said they would be ok with the springs and cam I was using but I think I disagree. Anyways I am getting rid of them and will use the comp rotation eliminators. I know these are peanut port heads and will hardly ever see anything over 5500 rpm but I want this to be a daily driver with 12K miles a year on it, so I want to be sure.
You think this is a good move?

the rotators are fine with a stock spring or the next step up .i do not know what you have for a spring but any dual with a damper they will not work and any thing around 120 on the seat and open 300s i would ditch the rotators .if not there ok long as there good shape . for stock use they go for many miles and hold upIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Thanks Pat
How are you healing up?
The springs are comp 911-16 with 309# open and 122# on the seat
so it looks like I will be getting rid of the rotators.

when you use the rotator eliminators open up the guide hole a wee bit or take some off the O.D of the eliminators if not they can stick down in the well and you can not get them out for shims.or they may not sit down all the way. you want to shim under the rotator elimintors as they have a very thin lip to keep spring from moving . i doing ok ThanksLast edited by pat mccarthy; 03-01-2011 at 06:04 AM.
