    ok so my uncle whos been a mechanic for years looked at the stamped code just under the alternator and it said T1012CTB... now can anyone tell me anything about this number?

    he just meant it came from the factory as a 402, which is the same engine as the 396 but with .030 bigger bores. He must have just meant it wasn't torn down and bored later on. I have the same motor.
