Electric Fans
Whats a good cfm rating to keep a big block cool? I was looking at a pair of 15" w/ a cfm of 2250 each or a pair of 16" w/ a cfm of 2350 each.

CFM ratings are mis-leading and only good for comparison. The instructions from SPAL on selecting a fan are pretty clear - "Choose the largest diameter fan that will fit your car or truck." If you can fit the dual 16's then that is what you want. More important is the full shroud you use, and a fan controller is something to consider, too.Last edited by rspears; 04-01-2011 at 07:27 AM.

Yep, and buy a Spal. None better IMO. Also, pullers are more efficient than pushers.

No, I'm thinking about running an electric fan setup instead on the conventional fan in my blazer. I play in the mud so I'm kinda on the fence about switching. If i were to I'd have it so it came on @ a certain temp & off @ another, then a off switch when i went through the mud.Last edited by Hoss Blazer; 04-02-2011 at 12:05 PM.

Of course, there's always this approach:Remember, Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.

I run a taurus 2 speed fan, a dakota digital fan controller, and a 2 core aluminum radiator with my 468 and it easily stays cool. I run a 160 thermostat, low speed on at 180 off at 178, high speed on at 190 off at 188. My low speed rarely kicks on at idle and high speed only comes on when I am wheelin and only in short bursts.

I'm running a mild BBC in my 46 Hudson full fendered coupe and just replaced my fans with a TwinCool pull through double 16" fans with full shroud. No controller, on all the time. Works great.

This is the setup i was looking @ seams cheap. Also after some measuring dual 15" aren't gonna work. Dual 14" ones will though
