Big Block heads
Hey Guys I need some help. I am building a big block chevy it is a 1978 TD 427. Only the block was good when I got it. I have had it machined for a stroker crank and bored over. It will be about 505ci. I am torn between oval or rectangle port heads. I do not expect it to be ran over 5500-6000 rpms. I was thinking of running a supercharger on it but not sure.

The oval port heads should be just fine for the street with the stated RPM's that your going to turn. I would run the open chamber heads over the older closed chamber heads if your looking. The rectangular port heads would work better for higher RPM's but bottom end torque would be less than the oval port heads.

no not really they need a bit of work they need a 4.625 head gasket to seal the chamber there not a full size rec port if yor using them ? i just do not think there worth the time to make them work .guys have used them but its a time and money deal were i can buy better heads like RHS or profilers have a better head out of the box with no workIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
