Kodiak Marine 496
Howdy gang,
We salvaged a jet boat that got washed down the river during the last flood we had.
The engine has only 11 hours on the Hobbs meter. The boat was full of slit and mud --we took 60 buckets of crapola out just to be able to see the motor mounts.
We pressure washed the outside and then scattered the engine to clean the inside.
I found one exhaust valve bad so it will be replaced but everything else looks brand new.
Is there any good site to find all the torque specs to rebuild the engine?
We have a complete gasket set -- new head bolts and new rod bolts and nuts coming.
That is one heavy duty engine- we like the crank timing set up.
thanks
hank

SRP wsb whos rods gm I beams? you can tell me more i can tell your all the TQ on bolts or studs you can not just put new rod bolts and nuts in it with out reconing the rods .or checking to see if there still roundLast edited by pat mccarthy; 06-08-2011 at 08:38 PM.

thanks for the reply Pat
it does have torque to yield head bolts --can you tell me the proper way to do the head torque
I don't quite understand why we can't just replace the rod bolts -- there wasn't any problem with the rods before we just felt that it would be good insurance to replace them. I wasn't sure if the rod bolts were torque to yield like the heads bolts.
There must be a torque pattern for the intake manifold and the oil pan.
thanks

you press the bolts out of the rods .rods could move with new bolts going in . moving the caps and most time the new bolts need to be fitted . if rods are out of spec then they get re built i have done many sets and most every time with new bolts.why do you need new rods bolts any ways if your not checking housing bore size on them? if this his a 454 4.310 bore with a 4.250 crank in it .all tq paterns of head s would be the same as 396to 454 .QT if new gm 496 then its all in a motor s bookLast edited by pat mccarthy; 06-09-2011 at 02:09 PM.
