    head question

Hello, I am in the process of building a bbc and my head on the even cylinder side has about 1/4"to 3/8" gap from the front of the head to front of the engine. The odd side head sits pretty much flush. This is my first BBC build and they are procomp ovals. My question is-is this normal? And if this is normal, WHY?!?! If needed, I can post pics,. thanks in advance.

I had to read your post a couple of times to envision what you were seeing, but I think what Pat said is what you have going on. If you look down on any V8 or V6 engine you will see the two banks are staggered, one is further ahead of the other. Like Pat said, that is so the connecting rods can run on the same journal, one in back of the other.

If that isn't what you mean, as Gary said, post some pictures.

The manufactures use that pad to mark the engines as to what they were in too.

yep the pad comes in handy to stamp id numbers there. any engine in v form or boxer using the same crank journal with two rods most all the time will have off set or bank shift
