Thanks for the info Pat and Dan. Think I'm sold on the one you recommended Dan. It'll outperform what I've got and sound good too. The truck isn't built for racing so no need in a custom gring or alot of headache going into cam choice. Thanks fellas

its up to you but if you do not need the fancy sticker and nice cam box go with the elgin cam e1066 or s930 .this cam flat out works with all your stock stuff used some of them cl122521-15 or the cl120031-12 abit tamer if you want name brand last two numbers are howards not a big fan of comp stuff .i buy the howards before comp . Erson make cams that will work fine i use about only 15 cam s a year I am happy with them .i am a dealer for most cams isky .comp. erson .howards. crower. still like dealing with. Erson and howards. on most all my custom roller cams are Erson .i stop building any flat lifter big blocks in the shop 10+ years ago .iseen way to many fail and not all coming from me.. if you go this way make sure you use break in oil like brad penn or joe gibs is what i use in flat lifter builds make sure it set to fire right up and run for a 1/2 @ 2500 no idling and a pray would not hurt ... good luck

i used this cam in my 396. my set up is very similar to yours. i wanted good street manners with good performance and a good cam sound. i could not be happier with this cam. i have about 2,000 miles on this motor in a 57 chev truck with a 2400 stall converter and 3:00 gears.i'm a very HAPPY

Best bang for your buck if your just wanting mild with a good sound is summitracing cam and lifter kits, $100 and you can get one with almost the exact same specs as the edelbrock performer but they have a pretty wide selection of others also

    Thumbs down

OK-this is a RANT so duck.
Anytime a guys says he wants a cam solely for the sound of it..........THAT undermines the whole concept of Hot Rodding.NO excuses!!!. Hell the next question to follow is what muffler to get??. I mean really??. Thought we built hot rods not to sound fast, but to be fast. That whole notion ignores all we have learned over the yrs and is like a slap in the face.It is driving a lie.Period.Childish mind games.Short cuts to what it should be,but isn't and has the intellect of a 5yr old.Learning curve of + 0.So when your around me Nancy adjust your skit your slip is showing because I expect you to wear big boy pants, other wise you just ticked me off for all the right reasons.

Oh yeah-the site is about Hot Rods,so let that burn a concept in your brain huh.Grrrrrrrrrrr.
    Good Bye
