    I need some camshaft recomendations...

For my 82' chevy c10. Fairly mild build on the motor. It's a 454 bored 60 over with 781 heads, RPM performer intake, 750 holley carb, longtube headers. It's just a weekend cruiser for my dad to take to the car shows so I'm not wanting anything too radical in it just a good mean sounding idle. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Call any of the major cam suppliers, and they will be more than happy to spec out a cam for you. You can even get a custom grind, but it's generally a lot more money. Hank

Times 2. Tech inspector or Pat Macarthy could probably suggest a cam. For me I always called Schnieder cams and went with their recomendations and cams.
Besides, their decals look so Kewl !

Comp Cams has a free download called Cam Quest that will suggest a good cam to compliment the rest of the changes to your engine, but if all you're after is the sound then just grab a Thumper cam and join the rest of the posers!!!!

i can tell you a nice cam will make good power have abit of sound will work with a small stall 2500, you need 9to 1 cr headers.howards cam hyd roller 228/236 595/602 110 or the erson grind as very close about the same but 602/602 used it or if you want more cam you need 10to1 + and will have low vacuum erson cam 627/627 238/246 112 have this instock 4/7 swap used many of this cam needs abit more stall

Since your intake's rpm power band is between 1500 and 6500rpm.....you would be best with a cam that has the same power band range. Something like this.....would make it breath better and keep the power band where you want it.

Pat, I'm not sure what the cr is on my setup, It's basically a stock rebuild. Pistons are flat tops and heads havent been milled any, just surfaced. It's actually assembled ready to go in the truck with an erson rv cam in it but I'm gonna change it out before stabbing the engine.

    Current cam specs:lift intake/exaust : 492/492
    duration advertised : 288/288
    duration @ .050 : 214/214

I dont mind running a good converter , I was thinking 2500-3000 just to make it more fun to drive. I've got a 3600 stall in my daily driver 03 silverado

you never said were you want to make power at that cam will make good power but you did not say you want to use a stock stall or pull a horse trailer ... or if flat hyd or roller ? that comp is no more then the merc 330 cam on 110 .works ok

Not gonna pull anything with the truck it's just for show n' go. Would like to keep it hyd flat and a stall is okay was thinking something around 2500-3000. I do plan on runnin the truck down the strip a couple times

If you go with a Cam that has a higher minimum rpm range....you will end up with a lopey rough idle until you get it in the range its designed for....yes its nice to get that popping pinging high cam sound....but if its mostly going to be a driver....you dont need much more than that example that I showed you. For strip....its not so much the cam that will make the huge difference..unless you want to drop a few grand into the motor so that you have a the parts to work with the big cam.....it will be the gear ratio in the rear end.....

    Just my 2 cents
