    Just Wondering

Hey guys i have a question wondering how fast my camaro could possibly be? I have a stock 454 big block with a 400 trans auto turbo and a 12 bolt pos with 4:11 gears. Now i do plan on putting some other things on teh motor but what u think that it might possibly run at the track?

    Thanks Matt

    Flash,

Which "stock" 454 do you have? What year and horsepower? What tires and traction devices do you have on the car? What stall torque converter do you have? How well does it hook up? All of that will have an impact on your 1/4 mile times. Depending on the answer to those questions it could run anywhere from low 14s to low 12s.

Also, if you have a 12 bolt, it should have 4.10 gears, not 4.11s. Not that it makes any difference performance wise, but that would be technically correct.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Leave it as close to stock as you can for driveability and gas mileage, and spray it with 100 - 125hp of juice. Depending on what tires you use, it should net you in the area of low 12's. Been there, done that. WEEEEE!!!!

Listen to tech, Flash. Takes a lot more than horsepower to go fast. As is, I would say a high 13 would be the right number if the car did anything other than spin tires or break parts.

Everything you want to do depends entirely on how you intend to drive it. What are you going to use this for, daily driver, weekend warrior, race car, whatever. If you want a daily driver with dependability, build it conservative by rebuilding it using factory specs. If you want a weekend warrior, go with a good performance cam, carb, headers, ignition, etc. Seeing as how your sig. mentions that it is fully tubbed, I am assuming you are going to stick some "fat" tires under there and are leaning towards the warrior side.

The 454 I ran in a 32 Ford I had, was built on the conservative side for mileage and dependability. I was able to get 12 mpg during the week, and during the Nostalgia drags was able to click off mid 10's. Yes it was on the bottle, but IMO you can not beat the cost per HP factor.

    Just my 2 cents worth.
